A IGEL Case Study
HOPPE Holding AG, a global manufacturer of door and window hardware with about 3,000 employees and roughly 800 thin client workplaces, needed to roll out Skype for Business as its standard IP telephony across a Citrix VDI environment, support Polycom USB phones, and improve endpoint management after its existing thin clients and vendor failed to meet requirements. HOPPE selected IGEL and adopted IGEL UD3 thin clients running IGEL OS, managed with the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS).
IGEL supplied firmware with Citrix HDX RealTime Media Engine, USB routing for Polycom phones, and centralized management via IGEL UMS, enabling a rapid proof and rollout (requirements met within two weeks; 35 devices replaced at headquarters in one week) and wider deployment across Europe. The IGEL solution delivered full Skype for Business functionality in VDI, noticeably better voice/transmission quality and end‑user performance, easier firmware updates and management, and to date about 250 of ~800 thin clients have been migrated to IGEL with plans to replace the rest.
