Falkirk Council - Customer Case Study

Falkirk Council needed to introduce flexible, mobile working for over 2,000 staff while meeting PSN compliance, reducing a continuous desktop replacement programme that cost around £250,000 per year, and rationalizing its office estate. To achieve this it adopted a VDI strategy using Citrix WorkSpace and IGEL technology—notably 600 IGEL UD3 and 100 UD6 endpoints plus 1,000 IGEL Universal Desktop Convertor (UDC) licences and IGEL’s Universal Management Suite (UMS).

The solution deployed Citrix VDI with IGEL-managed endpoints and UDC-converted PCs, enabling fast, centrally managed desktops, stronger security, lower energy/maintenance costs and extended hardware life. IGEL’s approach delivered flexible, anywhere access for 2,000+ users, eliminated the never-ending PC replacement cycle (saving an estimated £250k pa), and supports the council’s wider savings targets (contributing toward ~£60m by 2023) following an overall £1.8m infrastructure transition.
