A IGEL Case Study
Aberdeen Standard Investments, the investment arm of Standard Life Aberdeen managing £505.1bn in assets, needed to simplify and standardise its global virtual desktop environment after a merger. Faced with ageing Windows endpoints, heavy patching and maintenance, and the challenge of bringing two technology infrastructures together, Aberdeen Standard Investments engaged IGEL to modernise its desktop estate using the IGEL Operating System and IGEL’s Universal Desktop Converter (UDC).
IGEL converted existing PCs to IGEL OS, rolled out IGEL UD3/UD7 hardware where required, and centralised endpoint management, extending hardware life by around 2–3 years while reducing patching, security overhead and support effort. The IGEL deployment delivered faster start-up and login times, enabled automated 15‑minute device provisioning, smoothed post‑merger integration and produced clear time and cost savings—results that won strong endorsement from Aberdeen Standard Investments’ leadership.
