A IFS Case Study
China Airlines, Taiwan’s largest carrier, needed to modernize its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations to protect safety, support rapid fleet growth and expand third‑party MRO services. Its legacy mainframe systems were siloed, provided limited operational visibility, and made configuration control, compliance and timely maintenance decision‑making difficult — prompting a search for an integrated solution that minimized bespoke customization.
The airline chose IFS Maintenix and rolled it out in phased stages, integrating it with SAP and its ASAR warehousing system to enable real‑time maintenance capture and a Just‑in‑Time parts model. The change delivered measurable benefits: EMO operating costs fell by US$3.5M in 2013, line management efficiency improved 10%, A‑check delivery rose 3%, and average scheduled and unscheduled maintenance layovers dropped by about 30 and 25 days respectively — increasing aircraft revenue time, strengthening cost control and supporting higher repair quality and MRO growth.
