A IFS Case Study
Icelandair Technical Services (ITS), the independent maintenance arm of Icelandair supporting a 35-aircraft B757/B767 fleet with about 300 staff, faced the end-of-life of a legacy MRO system (separate databases per customer) and needed a future-proof solution to support its evolving business model. The challenge was to define an optimized maintenance enterprise, close gaps between current and target operations, and select a vendor that could deliver both robust functionality and strong partnership for a complex system replacement.
ITS evaluated eight systems, ran a proof-of-concept with IFS Maintenix, and adopted a phased implementation (back-office modules first, then production modules) with a dedicated project office, strong vendor engagement, and emphasis on data cleansing and migration. The approach improved operational visibility and demand signals, optimized the supply chain and maintenance planning, reduced implementation risk, and positioned ITS to realize productivity, material-utilization and continuous-improvement benefits.
