Case Study: BASF achieves optimized, compliant maintenance with IFS Ultimo

A IFS Case Study

Preview of the BASF Case Study

Maintenance optimised with multidisciplinary information management at BASF

BASF, a global chemical leader with about 111,000 employees and €78.6 billion in 2021 sales, faces the daily task of maintaining more than 800 process functions and 6,000+ instruments while complying with strict regulations (NEN 3140, BRZO, ATEX, ISO 14001, etc.) and passing frequent inspections. Ensuring reliable, auditable maintenance across production and engineering teams is therefore a critical and complex challenge.

BASF addressed this by using IFS Ultimo (in place since 2002) as a central maintenance and document-management hub: technicians and production staff report and manage work in Ultimo, engineers share drawings via a linked DMS, and external partners access required information easily. The result was faster work preparation, more efficient maintenance execution, better cross-discipline coordination, easier compliance demonstration, and a payback on the software investment within two years.
