A IFS Case Study
London Gatwick Airport, one of the UK’s busiest single-runway airports handling over 46 million passengers, needed to modernise ageing maintenance systems to protect passenger experience and minimise asset downtime. Its legacy EAM (Maximo) and DMS were slow, poorly supported and full of duplicated, unreliable data, making reporting, trend analysis and preventative maintenance nearly impossible—prompting a £12 million Asset Data Platform (ADP) transformation to better manage a £2.3 billion asset base.
Gatwick implemented IFS Ultimo as a modern, configurable EAM integrated with a new DMS, cleaned and rationalised asset data, and delivered role-based training and strong business engagement over an 18-month rollout. The result: faster, self-serve reporting, improved data accuracy (from ~40% to ~90%), more than 25% of staff time reclaimed for productive work, smoother preventive maintenance, stronger ISO55001 compliance and an expected payback of three to four years.
