Port of Melbourne reduces crane collision risk with ifm 35m 3D sensors

The Port of Melbourne, one of the largest port terminal operators in Australia, faced the challenge of preventing dangerous and costly collisions between cranes and transport vehicles. Due to the crane operator's limited visibility, they sought a technical solution and turned to vendor ifm efector for a system using O3D151 3D sensors to monitor the operating area.

ifm efector implemented a solution using two O3D151 sensors to cover the entire area beneath the crane, with a range of 35 meters. This system provided reliable monitoring and issued warning and stop signals via the crane's controller. The results included improved safety for personnel and goods, a significant increase in work efficiency, and the system's nomination for a Work Safe Award.
