Indusign, a Belgian manufacturer of transhipment cranes, faced the challenge of modernizing its equipment by replacing obsolete hydraulic joysticks and integrating more intelligent control, visualization, and diagnostic functions. This was necessary to make the large cranes easier to operate and to improve their reliability and safety. Indusign partnered with ifm efector to implement a solution using the vendor's hardened PLCs.

ifm efector provided a robust, mobile PLC system programmed via the open CodeSys standard, which could withstand the extreme conditions of a port environment. The solution enabled electronic control, advanced diagnostics, and remote monitoring via an integrated GSM modem. This resulted in improved operational efficiency, enhanced safety through features like controlled acceleration, and the ability to perform remote maintenance on cranes anywhere in the world, significantly increasing machine uptime and lifetime.
