IE Company was engaged by one of Australia's largest logistics companies to address the challenge of manually processing handwritten parcel addresses. This labor-intensive task was taking employees 10-15 seconds per address to check, leading to inefficiency and fatigue. The customer needed to test the feasibility of a machine learning and optical character recognition (OCR) system to automate this process.

IE Company built a mobile app that captures an image of a handwritten address and uses an API to return three likely matches from the customer's database. The solution achieved a remarkable 77% baseline match rate, exceeding the original 70% goal, and an 81% adjusted rate when excluding addresses not found by humans. This entire prototype was delivered in just four weeks, significantly improving processing speed and accuracy for the customer.
