Unisa slices a month off it's budgeting burden with idu-Concept

The University of South Africa (UNISA), a mega‑university with hundreds of thousands of students and an annual budget of around R3.2 billion, struggled after a 2004 merger to manage complex, paper‑heavy budgeting processes using spreadsheets. The scale of students, staff and consolidated campuses made collating and updating budget data slow, error‑prone and unable to meet deadlines, prompting UNISA to seek a specialist budgeting solution from IDU.

IDU implemented its idu-Concept budgeting and reporting application, giving cost‑centre managers direct control of their budgets and freeing accountants to focus on analysis. According to UNISA, idu-Concept cut the budgeting cycle by four weeks, reduced paperwork and improved reporting and responsiveness — delivering faster, more accurate financial management across the institution.
