Case Study: University of Cape Town achieves faster, more strategic budgeting and analytics with IDU (idu-Concept)

Fast and easy access to data and analytics allows the finance team to be more strategic

The University of Cape Town (UCT) faced an archaic, spreadsheet- and paper‑intensive budgeting process based on SAP Controlling that was time‑consuming, labour‑intensive and lacked agile data analytics. Seeking a budgeting and reporting tool to cut turnaround times and reduce reliance on spreadsheets, UCT selected IDU and its idu‑Concept solution.

IDU implemented the web‑based idu‑Concept (implementation began January 2019, training in June and rollout in July 2019), delivering mobile access, point‑and‑click analytics and automated budgeting workflows. The result was faster, easier access to data, streamlined budgeting and significant time savings—reducing budgeting cycles from months to weeks—and enabling finance managers to focus on analysis and strategy, with positive feedback from Deans and executives.
