A IDScan.net Case Study
The California Department of Motor Vehicles needed a better way to identify suspended and revoked drivers who were still driving and slipping through DUI/license checkpoints. Working with IDScan.net, the DMV used Veriscan M-310 handheld identification card readers to electronically capture driver license data at Sacramento checkpoints and compare it against DMV records.
IDScan.net’s card-reader solution helped law enforcement check 13,705 drivers across 17 checkpoints and identify suspended or revoked statuses in real time. The study found that 3.3% of drivers contacted were suspended or revoked, and 40.8% of those drivers avoided detection by presenting valid-looking licenses; detection improved for DUI-related cases, while financial-responsibility suspensions were most often missed. The DMV used these findings to recommend stronger license-surrender language and expanded use of electronic ID readers, highlighting the value of IDScan.net’s technology in closing a major enforcement loophole.
