Reducing response times to business emergencies

Network Fire Service Partnership (NFSP), a collaboration between Devon & Somerset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services, needed to improve the accuracy of business location data used in emergency call handling. Out-of-date or incomplete address information was slowing down the identification of business incidents and could delay the deployment of the right response vehicles. NFSP worked with Idox, using its Aligned Assets gazetteer management system and Business Names data service.

Idox embedded 118 business information into NFSP’s gazetteer to fill gaps in the AddressBase Premium dataset and feed more accurate data into the Vision Command and Control system. The result was a more accurate identification of business addresses, an average reduction of 30 seconds in business incident attendance times, and at least a 90% drop in gazetteer amendment requests from 999 calls. Idox also enabled NFSP to access an extra 45,000 business addresses for emergency response.
