Making electoral history in Malta – breaking records across the board with Idox’s innovative e-counting software

The Electoral Commission of Malta worked with Idox to modernize its manual vote-counting process for elections using Malta’s complex Single Transferable Vote (STV) system. To improve speed and accuracy, the Commission sought an electronic vote counting solution ahead of the country’s 2019 European Parliament and local council elections.

Idox implemented its e-counting software, along with supporting infrastructure, security, training, and services for Malta’s count centre. The solution was successfully used in May 2019, cutting results delivery from days to hours, counting over 270,000 votes for the European election, and helping Malta become one of the first two countries to issue official European election results.
