Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust uses iAssets to optimise its hospital asset tracking system

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a multi-site NHS trust delivering acute healthcare across Gloucestershire, needed a better way to monitor and locate portable medical devices spread across its hospitals and departments. With equipment regularly moved between sites and wards, the Trust struggled to keep an accurate asset count and quickly find devices for servicing, repair, or urgent use. Vendor Idox provided the iAssets healthcare asset tracking system to replace a manual barcode-based process.

Idox implemented iAssets to give the Trust automated, RFID-enabled visibility of around 6,000 tagged medical devices across GRH, CGH and other sites. The solution improved tracking and audits, helped staff find a missing blood pressure monitor in under 30 minutes, enabled a ventilator location list to be sent within 10 minutes during the pandemic, and supported the decommissioning of 10 underutilised devices. It also reduced time spent searching for equipment, improved efficiency and patient safety, and delivered cost savings by cutting replacement and contractor service costs.
