Embracing digital technology to increase clinical availability and drive patient satisfaction and safety

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust partnered with Idox to address serious health records management issues after a 2013 CQC inspection placed the Trust into special measures. With around 40% of medical documentation often out of the main library and up to 10% of clinics lacking the right records, the Trust needed a safer, more reliable patient journey. It adopted Idox’s iFIT hospital inventory and records management solution to improve visibility and tracking across its hospital sites.

Idox’s iFIT platform, using GS1-compliant RFID sensors and handheld devices, enabled the Trust to locate records and hospital assets quickly and accurately. The results were significant: a 700% increase in records filing productivity, around 12% additional clinics added, and a reported return of £2.4 million over three years from just under a £1 million investment. Idox also helped BHRUT achieve 84% of the business case within five to six months, while improving patient safety, reducing unnecessary equipment spend, and giving staff real-time confidence that records would be available when patients arrived.
