Efficient, cost-effective highways maintenance with Idox’s Aligned Assets gazetteer

Herefordshire Council worked with Idox to improve the accuracy and management of its highways data. The council needed a better way to record and share street information after finding limitations in its sub-contractor Balfour Beatty’s system, which could not split streets by Elementary Street Unit (ESU) or export all the detailed street data needed for maintenance, winter gritting, parking, and engineering records. Idox’s Aligned Assets gazetteer, including its Local Street Gazetteer (LSG), was used to support the council’s BS7666-compliant street and address data.

Using Idox’s Aligned Assets LSG, Herefordshire Council phased out reliance on the sub-contractor’s system and began exporting detailed street data directly to external teams and agencies. The solution improved data quality, enabled fault reporting at ESU level, and helped the council deliver highways maintenance more quickly, more cost-effectively, and smarter. Idox says the approach has also supported time savings, streamlined processes, and helped Herefordshire maintain its Gold Standard status.
