Allied Irish Banks Long a Financial Established Services Group With a Robust Digital Offering

Allied Irish Banks (AIB), a major Irish financial services group with over 2.8 million customers, faced a challenge: new accounts required in-branch identity verification, leaving the bank unable to meet growing demand for fully remote onboarding. To build a Remote Account Opening capability and modernize its digital infrastructure, AIB selected IDnow in December 2016 to provide the identification element, integrating IDnow’s video-based ID verification into AIB’s mobile app.

IDnow’s solution connects customers to an IDnow agent via video within the AIB app to meet AML requirements and complete onboarding in minutes. Since launch (February 2018) AIB reports 40% of eligible new accounts are opened remotely using IDnow, delivering substantial time savings (about 30 minutes staff time per account) and operational efficiencies; the work also supported broader digital adoption (over 80% staff able to work remotely during COVID-19) and accelerated AIB’s digital transformation.
