Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service faced inconsistent, paper‑based testing and defect recording across 17 stations, making audits slow, error‑prone and limiting asset traceability. The service needed a standardised, auditable system to manage vehicles, equipment and PPE and to improve compliance and maintenance responsiveness.
They implemented Miquest handheld scanners and a secure centralised CMMS to scan barcodes/QR/RFID, log pass/fail tests and create instant defect notifications to Technical Services. The roll‑out replaced all paper records, enabled bespoke reporting and LEAN practices, and delivered measurable results: more than 134,000 tests logged (over 109,000 weekly), 2,200+ defects (31 Near Miss/RIDDOR), roughly 4,000 weekly tests, and visibility for 7,500+ operational assets and 18,000+ PPE items.
