Saving time and money for Dorset Fire & Rescue Service

Dorset Fire & Rescue Service, responsible for more than 21,500 critical assets across 49 appliances and 26 stations, needed a reliable maintenance management system to meet statutory inspection requirements and control equipment and inventory costs. Growing compliance pressures in 2010 prompted the Service to look for a solution that could manage frequent, traceable testing and streamline asset administration.

They implemented the Miquest CMMS across vehicles and mobile devices (now tablets), using work orders, 2D barcodes and offline capability to record inspections, after‑use checks, PPE and supplies management. The system delivered measurable savings and efficiency — reduced on-station testing time, redeployment of three full-time and one part-time roles (now only one part-time database administrator), improved KPI reporting and dashboards, and a fall in lost-equipment costs to about £500 a year — with ongoing support assured after Miquest’s acquisition by Idhammar Systems.
