Maintaining high performance steel production

Ovako Steel’s Hofors site in Sweden is a strategic production centre for the group, employing about 670 people and producing roughly 525,000 tonnes of high‑performance steel bars and special products per year. Facing intense market competition, the site needed to modernise and standardise maintenance practices, minimise downtime and enable information sharing across European sites to support lean, reliable production.

Ovako implemented Idhammar MMS in 1995 and has since used its asset management, inspections, planning, analysis and modular development to support a 5S and lean‑maintenance programme. The system delivered tighter control of maintenance planning and costs, improved inventory and stock control, standardised work orders and inspections, enabled cross‑site best‑practice sharing and sustained continuous improvement.
