Woman’s Hospital Saves Time And Money With Idera

Woman’s Hospital, one of the largest women’s specialty hospitals in the U.S., was struggling with rapidly growing SQL Server databases and a single DBA managing 483 databases across 76 installations. Its backup and archive processes were taking hours, backup files were overwhelming the tape system, and performance issues made it difficult to store and report on large volumes of patient data. To address these challenges, the hospital turned to Idera, using SQL Safe Backup and SQL Doctor.

Idera implemented SQL Safe Backup to add backup compression and simplify archiving, and SQL Doctor to identify T-SQL and stored procedure performance issues. The results were significant: on just five servers, Woman’s Hospital saved nearly 1 TB of storage per day, cut average backup time by one-third, and estimated annual savings of $404,944 in storage costs. SQL Doctor also helped the team quickly spot common performance problems and improve query practices.
