Plexus Monitors Worldwide SQL Server Enterprise Using a PDA

Plexus Corp., a global manufacturing and electronics services company, needed to keep more than 30 SQL Server databases running reliably across offices worldwide so project data and reporting would always be available. The challenge was especially difficult for its senior DBA, Tom Lane, who had to manage critical systems while often being away from the office during a long commute. Plexus turned to Idera’s SQL mobile manager to monitor and control SQL Server environments from a Windows Mobile device.

Idera implemented SQL mobile manager to give Tom real-time alerts and remote access to jobs, blocking connections, and other database functions from anywhere. The result was faster response to issues, less downtime risk, and greater DBA productivity; Tom reported fixing a blocking connection and restarting a mission-critical job in about two minutes from the side of the road, while also catching potential problems like a server drive reaching 100% utilization before they caused major performance issues.
