Microsoft Deploys ER/Studio to Establish an Enterprise Data Model

Microsoft Corporation faced the challenge of managing a vast and inconsistent data environment across thousands of databases and more than 10,000 servers, with different business groups modeling data in incompatible ways. To address the need for an enterprise data model and better standardization, Microsoft Corporation evaluated multiple options and selected Idera’s ER/Studio Data Architect and Model Repository.

Idera implemented ER/Studio to centralize data modeling, support metadata capture, enable compare-and-merge, and standardize naming and definitions across the organization. The solution improved cross-team collaboration, made logical-to-physical modeling and forward-engineering faster, and supported a multi-year enterprise data model initiative expected to include over 4,000 entities. Microsoft Corporation also reported greater efficiency through a central repository, easier reuse and consolidation of data, and better support for enterprise-wide initiatives using end-to-end customer and partner data.
