PPG Industries, a global supplier of coatings, glass, fiberglass and chemicals, needed a faster, more efficient way to manage SQL Server backups as its database environment grew and storage space ran short. After reorganizing its DBA teams, the company also needed a solution that could handle routine backup operations across 60 SQL Servers without adding staff. PPG turned to Idera and its SQL Safe backup and recovery solution.

Idera implemented SQL Safe across PPG’s SQL Server environment in the US and Canada, enabling the company to process more than 3,400 backups per day with 70–85% compression. The result was a reduction in SQL Server backup storage costs by over 70%, saving about 550 GB of space per day and roughly 200 TB per year. Idera also gave PPG centralized visibility into backup status and errors, improving efficiency and reliability.
