A Identity Automation Case Study
Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS), a Virginia district serving more than 58,000 students across 62 schools, faced an unsustainable identity problem: manual account lifecycle management for teachers, staff and students that could take up to two weeks, created help‑desk burdens, security risks and barriers to scaling online learning. To give students and teachers one‑click access to web‑based curriculum and reduce password‑related interruptions, CCPS required automated provisioning, deprovisioning, dynamic group management and single sign‑on capabilities. They engaged Identity Automation to meet these needs.
Identity Automation implemented an automated account lifecycle and SSO solution that syncs authoritative HR and Student Information System data into Active Directory, creates dynamic group memberships, provisions accounts into Google Apps and dozens of SaaS tools via SAML, and enables self‑service password reset. As a result, CCPS now manages over 60,000 identities, synchronizes tens of thousands of groups almost in real time, brings teachers online instantly instead of waiting weeks, deprovisions separated users the same day for audit compliance, and has cut manual labor and license spend—much of the rollout and ongoing extension was completed internally using Identity Automation training.
