HCC turns to identity automation for automated lifecycle management of 80,000 students, faculty, and staff

Houston Community College faced major identity and access challenges across its 22 campuses supporting roughly 80,000 users (77,000 students and 3,000 faculty and staff). An 8-person Central Systems Administration team had to create as many as 30,000 new accounts per day during peak registration, manually grant and revoke entitlements across disparate systems (a process that could take weeks), track complex user lifecycles for multi-role users, and shoulder high help-desk costs from password issues. To replace brittle scripts and stay within budget, HCC engaged Identity Automation and implemented its RapidIdentity IAM solution.

Identity Automation deployed RapidIdentity to launch HCC’s Eagle ID single‑ID initiative, enabling students, faculty, and staff to claim one login at registration, use self‑service password reset, and receive automatic, role‑based provisioning for services like PeopleSoft, Office 365, Canvas, Moodle, email, and campus computers/printers from day one. The RapidIdentity implementation sharply reduced user complaints and help‑desk calls, freed IT to focus on strategic projects, was delivered on time and on budget, and set the stage for a Phase II single‑sign‑on portal.
