Engaging 500+ Team Members in Engineering to Openly Ideate on a New Product Platform

Mercury, a global leader in marine propulsion, needed a way to engage its 500+ engineering and design team members to openly ideate around a new product platform; traditional methods like whiteboarding and spreadsheets couldn’t scale to capture and evaluate ideas across the whole organization. To solve this, Mercury sought a vendor that could provide simple onboarding and advanced selection capabilities — leading them to partner with Ideawake.

Ideawake implemented its idea management platform and worked with Mercury to craft a targeted challenge and promotion plan, enabling company-wide crowdsourcing and collaboration. The campaign generated 183 ideas, 269 comments, and 597 votes, produced a high-quality shortlist reviewed by an internal steering committee, and led to 15–20% of submissions being integrated into future products, with several ideas identified as potential intellectual property.
