BVN Architecture, working in partnership with Jasmax, faced a complex design challenge on the seven-story ASB North Wharf building in Auckland, New Zealand: creating a highly shaded northern façade that would meet building code requirements while also reducing glare, minimizing heat gain, and delivering a visually dynamic architectural pattern. With 884 diamond-shaped façade segments and thousands of blade variations to manage, the team needed a way to handle massive amounts of design data efficiently. They turned to Ideate Software and Ideate BIMLink for Revit to help manage the process.

Using Ideate BIMLink, BVN Architecture and Jasmax were able to pull data from Revit into Excel, randomize and manipulate the blade configurations, and push the results back into Revit. What would have taken days of repetitive work was reduced to minutes, with each design exploration taking about half an hour instead of a day and a half of tedium. Ideate Software helped the team manage about 3.5 million possible permutations, improving both efficiency and accuracy while making the façade concept feasible in Revit.
