Sacramento Tree Foundation needed a mobile way to capture GPS points and tree-related data in real time so its field staff could better map and monitor urban trees. Working with Idealist Consulting and Salesforce1, the organization set out to build a custom mobile app that would integrate directly with its Salesforce.com database.

Idealist Consulting implemented a Salesforce1-based solution using Salesforce Enterprise Edition, Visualforce, Google Maps, and PDF customization. The app gave foresters iPads with daily visit lists, real-time data capture, and site recommendations, while supervisors could confirm details and generate property maps as PDFs for residents. The project was deployed in about 3 months, supported 15 users, and required 350 hours of effort.
