Harley-Davidson Rides to “Best-in-Galaxy” Safety with ProcessMAP

Harley‑Davidson, a global manufacturer and lifestyle brand with more than $5B in sales, 5,000+ employees and operations in nearly 100 countries, faced a major safety crisis in 2009: one injury for every 12 employees (about 85% MSDs), a workplace injury rate four times the U.S. average, regulatory citations across multiple countries, and more than $6M in workers’ compensation costs—hurting morale, reputation and operating costs.

Harley‑Davidson implemented ProcessMAP’s EHSQ cloud platform (internally called SHIELD) using a phased LADDERTM rollout, native integrations (SAP, SSO, labs, claims) and leadership-driven safety tenets. The program centralized incident, ergonomics, audits and claims management and boosted near‑miss reporting and audits (up 83% and 120% respectively), while delivering an 85% reduction in workers’ compensation claims, a 90% drop in recordable MSDs, no willful/serious OSHA violations since 2012, and industry recognition from Verdantix.
