A IDE Group Case Study
Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation, a UK disability charity, was working with donated equipment, ageing servers spread across different locations, slow ADSL connectivity, Windows XP desktops, and Office 2003. Its backup and disaster recovery process relied on tapes that had to be changed each night, and the charity needed a more consistent platform for staff, residents, and visitors across its sites. IDE Group was brought in to modernise the charity’s ICT services and infrastructure.
IDE Group consolidated the scattered servers and multiple Windows Domains into a single virtual infrastructure, introduced a new Windows virtual desktop with Microsoft productivity tools delivered by Citrix, upgraded the LAN for campus Wi-Fi, and added a managed service contract with monitoring, Private Managed WAN, and Cloud backup & Disaster Recovery. The charity said it had “caught up ten years in two,” and the new setup let users work from any QEF location or at home while giving staff access to shared resources and helping to keep data backed up remotely.
