The customer, XFT, a Chinese medical manufacturer, faced the challenge of creating a more motivating muscle recovery device for patients and a less cumbersome, immobile solution for medical staff to monitor therapy. Industrial Design Consultancy Ltd (ID&C) was engaged to develop a new sEMG muscle stimulation device.

ID&C developed a solution centered around a detachable iPad, which was housed in a robust, custom-designed casing. This approach integrated the device's controls into an app, allowing medical staff to monitor patients remotely and providing patients with interactive games to make rehabilitation more enjoyable. The vendor's design included a unique hinge for easy iPad adjustment, a magnetic clasp for security, and integrated charging, resulting in a high-quality, mobile product that dramatically reduced the unit's size and freed up staff time.
