Their challenge was to create a portable home-use device that effectively stimulated neck muscles while conveying comfort and relaxation through its design. A significant hurdle was designing intuitive controls that could be operated by touch alone since the user cannot see the device while it is on their neck.

ID&C implemented a comprehensive solution that included extensive user research, industrial design, and ergonomic optimization. They developed a soft, rounded form with a large scalloped control area featuring tactile buttons, ensuring the product was both comfortable and easy to operate blindly. The vendor also engineered optimally shaped contact pads for effective skin contact across a wide range of users. The resulting design provided unmatched comfort and ergonomics in a small, efficient package with a cleanable finish, successfully redefining portable comfort for XFT Medical.
