TISSIUM launches first-of-its-kind surgical adhesive curing device in 12 months with ID&C

ID&C (Industrial Design Consultancy Ltd) partnered with Tissium (formerly Gecko Biomedical), which needed a sterile, pen-sized light source to cure its innovative surgical adhesive during vascular reconstructive surgery. The challenge was to develop this first-of-its-kind device rapidly, overcoming technical and user-experience hurdles where no off-the-shelf solution existed.

The solution from ID&C was the Setalum Light, a portable, rechargeable device. Key innovations included a collimated lens for consistent light intensity and a disposable sterile sleeve with safety sensors. ID&C's integrated team delivered the approved product for clinical trials in just 12 months, achieving regulatory approvals from the EU and US FDA.
