Case Study: Linde achieves award-winning reach truck innovation with ID&C engineering and model design

Linde builds a 90kg-rated reach truck control console with ID&C

The customer, Linde, faced the challenge of developing a new driver's control console for its R14-R20 Reach Truck range. The console needed to house controls in specific ergonomic locations within very restricted spaces and be robust enough to meet strict safety requirements. Linde engaged the vendor, ID&C, for engineering and production solutions after completing the industrial design phase themselves.

ID&C engineered a two-part design from an innovative 50% glass-filled nylon material that was injection moulded to create a strong, aesthetic structure. The vendor also produced full-size vacuum cast models for testing and worked directly on developing the production tooling. The resulting console successfully met Linde's safety requirement of withstanding a 90kg load. The overall reach truck range that incorporated this console went on to win the Red Dot award in 2013.
