HM Prison Service cuts safer cell furniture costs by more than 50% with ID&C

The customer, HM Prison Service, faced a major challenge with prisoner suicide and vandalism, requiring safer cell furniture that was custom-built at a huge expense. They approached the vendor, ID&C (Industrial Design Consultancy Ltd), to develop a suicide-proof, vandal-resistant, and fire-safe range of products.

ID&C created a modular range of safer cell furniture using standard components and concealed fixings. Their solution, which included a bed, desk, locker, and chair, exceeded all requirements and was supplied into thousands of cells at less than half the cost of existing safer cells, providing a highly cost-effective and successful outcome for the HM Prison Service.
