Baxter improves CAPD home dialysis with ID&C in up to 45-minute sessions

Baxter, a global leader in the treatment of kidney disease, sought to develop a safer, more efficient, and aesthetically pleasing Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) device for home use. Their challenge was to create a product that improved hygiene, simplified the process for patients, and allayed concerns about the risk of infection. ID&C (Industrial Design Consultancy Ltd) was engaged to help develop this new CAPD+ device.

ID&C's solution was a comprehensive unit designed around patient needs, featuring a pre-warming drawer for dialysate, UV sterilization lights, a weighing platform to confirm complete waste drainage, and an ergonomic design for comfort and cleanliness. The result was a highly successful prototype that received excellent feedback in user testing. ID&C delivered a product that was not only functionally superior but also designed for cost-effective manufacture, supporting Baxter in their next stage of development for kidney disease treatment products.
