Preview of the Chugai Case Study

Chugai futureproofs business through 'user-buy-in' adoption of E‑WorkBook

Chugai, a Japanese pharmaceutical company, wanted to move away from paper notebooks because they created problems such as illegible notes, transcription errors, slow searches, manual data handling, and vulnerability to natural disasters. Looking to reduce paper use and improve record management, Chugai evaluated an electronic laboratory notebook with Roche and its internal users, then chose IDBS E-WorkBook.

IDBS implemented E-WorkBook through a user-buy-in rollout that began with pilot groups and expanded based on feedback, supported by training and flexible migration from paper. The results included productivity gains of 20–30% for pharmacology scientists, up to 50% for pre-formulation groups, and 30% efficiency gains for analytical teams, along with faster retrieval of richer experimental data, less paper dependence, and improved traceability and collaboration.
