Howard University Film Organization Uses Backlight Software to Produce Afrosurreal Anthology Series

Howard University Film Organization (HUFO), a student group at a prestigious HBCU, sought to produce an Afrosurreal anthology series but faced challenges in organization and execution due to the students' limited professional experience. They needed intuitive, professional-grade software to manage the entire production process, from scriptwriting to post-production collaboration. To address this, they partnered with Backlight and utilized its software, including Celtx, ftrack, and iconik.

Backlight provided HUFO with its suite of video production tools, which streamlined the entire filmmaking process. iconik centralized media asset management and facilitated remote collaboration with time-stamped feedback, while ftrack Studio helped the team plan realistic schedules and meet deadlines. This solution empowered the students to successfully complete post-production, and their anthology series was entered into film festivals. HUFO also plans to partner with Backlight again for distribution using its Zype platform.
