Granular Security Settings Assist with Multi-billion Dollar Global Settlement

HLP Integration, a Washington, D.C.-based eDiscovery team, managed a two-year, high-stakes intellectual property dispute involving highly sensitive international documents that threatened EV plans for major automakers. The challenge included strict access controls due to government involvement and the need to search and review a massive corpus (5.8 TB) where 95% of documents were in Korean and had to be synchronized with English searches. HLP relied on the iCONECT platform (including predictive coding Sentio®, indexed and AI/conceptual search, email threading, and multi-layer security features) to address these constraints.

Using the iCONECT system, HLP segmented documents by language, applied stringent access controls (multi-factor authentication, intrusion logging, print/download restrictions), and deployed predictive coding and analytics to prioritize “hot” documents and eliminate low-relevance material. Over 15 months, 75 contract reviewers and 75 translators working across time zones identified the key documents, increasing review throughput from 8 to 42 documents per hour, saving an estimated $3–5 million in review costs, enabling 20 concurrent issue tags, and helping produce enough evidence to bring about settlement talks that resulted in a historic settlement of over $1.8 billion.
