Deutsche Bahn reaches 784 Mbps onboard with Icomera

Deutsche Bahn, in partnership with Icomera, undertook the Gigabit Zug 2030 project to develop and test innovative concepts for providing high-speed, gigabit-level mobile connectivity to trains. The challenge was to assess the technical and commercial feasibility of delivering seamless internet for passengers and connected devices on high-speed rail lines.

Icomera's solution combined Starlink satellite connectivity, novel sectorised cellular antennas, Wi-Fi 7 access points, and its X-Series router with SureWAN™ aggregation technology. The results were exceptional, with Icomera achieving an average throughput of 784 Mbps and a peak performance exceeding 1.6 Gbps during the tests, successfully demonstrating that gigabit-speed connectivity for trains is a present-day reality.
