Deutsche Bahn connects 500,000 daily passengers with Icomera Wi-Fi

Deutsche Bahn, Germany's national railway operator, sought a best-in-class solution to provide reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity for passengers across its diverse fleet of trains, including high-speed ICE and regional services. The challenge was to meet rising passenger expectations and a government mandate for connectivity, while also supporting other onboard digital services. They partnered with vendor Icomera to deploy their passenger Wi-Fi technology.

Icomera implemented a customized solution using various products like the X6i and X³ routers, tailored to different train types and operational needs. Their patented SureWAN™ technology aggregated signals from multiple mobile networks to ensure a stable, high-performance "always-on" connection even at high speeds. As a result, up to 500,000 passengers now connect daily, and Deutsche Bahn appointed Icomera as their Strategic Partner for Passenger Wi-Fi and digital services in 2019.
