Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) faced a significant challenge when relocating its headquarters, which involved building two new data centers and necessitated a complete redesign of its IT monitoring from scratch. The institute's IT team, no longer relying on university-provided services, needed a new solution to monitor its entire heterogeneous environment, from Linux and Windows servers to new network components and specialized laboratory equipment.

Partnering with Icinga and the implementation service provider Linuxfabrik, Swiss TPH deployed a highly available, distributed monitoring setup. The Icinga solution integrated with tools like Libre NMS and Grafana and leveraged extensive automation with Ansible for agent deployment. The results were a sustainable monitoring environment that provides comprehensive visibility across their global infrastructure, automated processes that save valuable resources, and the freedom to extend monitoring with custom checks, leading to daily improvements in their IT operations.
