A ICF Case Study

Preview of the Duke Energy Case Study

Duke Energy builds climate resilience with ICF for 4.3M customers

The customer, Duke Energy, faced the challenge of assessing the physical impacts of extreme weather on its extensive power transmission and distribution assets in the Carolinas. The utility needed a forward-looking analysis to understand its evolving risk profile under various climate scenarios. Vendor ICF used its proprietary ClimateSight risk modeling platform to help address this challenge.

ICF developed an interactive, granular map that layered climate risk projections with social vulnerability data, pinpointing specific asset vulnerabilities. This effort engaged 37 unique stakeholder groups and informed the creation of Duke Energy's Climate Adaptation Flexible Framework. The solution benefits 4.3 million customers by enabling the utility to strategically plan resilience investments over the coming decades.
