CMS modernizes EQRS with ICF to connect 7,000+ facilities

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) faced the challenge of modernizing its legacy End-Stage Renal Disease Quality Reporting System (EQRS) to make health IT data more accessible and actionable. The goal was to expedite the national organ procurement process, lower the high costs associated with end-stage renal disease care, and help tens of thousands of Americans on the kidney transplant waiting list. ICF was partnered with to transform this system.

ICF implemented a modernized architecture for EQRS leveraging AWS cloud infrastructure, AI, and human-centered design. The solution provided a consolidated dashboard, giving healthcare providers immediate visibility into patient data. As a result, 225 transplant centers and over 7,000 dialysis facilities now have full access to the system, which has streamlined the transplant process and is expected to lead to millions in annual savings for CMS.
