SamTrans Driving Better Decision-Making with StreamSets and AWS

SamTrans, the San Mateo County Transit District, faced a decentralized IT ecosystem with varied skill sets, data sources, and bespoke integration processes that were fragile and hard to share. For a Business Intelligence initiative to better understand ridership trends and enable self-service analytics, SamTrans selected IBM StreamSets (using the StreamSets data integration platform and smart data pipelines) to replace isolated data flows with a unified, easy-to-use solution.

IBM StreamSets delivered a common integration platform that ingested on‑premises sources (Oracle, SQL Server, CSV) and landed data reliably and continuously in cloud destinations like AWS S3 and PostgreSQL. By building smart data pipelines, IBM StreamSets consolidated distributed data into dashboards for faster, better decision-making (especially during COVID), enabled real‑time feeds to AWS partners for budget and operational decisions, reduced brittle custom integrations, accelerated SamTrans’ DataOps journey, and set the stage for a cloud data warehouse and future AI work.
