Case Study: Shell achieves enterprise-scale AI and self-service analytics with IBM StreamSets

A IBM StreamSets Case Study

Preview of the Shell Case Study

Delivering AI at Enterprise Scale

Shell, a global energy company, needed to modernize data management so teams could self-serve analytics from a single, secure multi-tenant platform without duplicating storage. To collect and transform massive, varied datasets into formats data scientists require and move workloads to the cloud, Shell chose AWS and IBM StreamSets, using the StreamSets DataOps Platform to drive the shift to a cloud-native Shell.ai Network.

IBM StreamSets and AWS built an AWS S3 data lake and used the StreamSets DataOps Platform to automate ingestion from sensors to point-of-sale systems, ensure data reliability, and integrate Shell’s authentication and metadata services. The deployment created a Center of Excellence for data movement, supports 2,000+ Shell.ai members and 600+ self-service users, enables real-time model training and scoring, helps Shell scale up and down to optimize costs, and underpins 23 identified use cases across upstream and downstream operations.
