Case Study: State of Ohio achieves overnight COVID-19 dashboard delivery with IBM StreamSets

A IBM StreamSets Case Study

Preview of the State of Ohio Case Study

Delivering a COVID-19 Data Dashboard Overnight

The State of Ohio’s data platform team, which supports dozens of state agencies and thousands of disparate data sources, needed to rapidly consolidate highly varied public-health and economic data across 88 counties when COVID-19 hit. Working with partner Avaap, they used IBM StreamSets—leveraging StreamSets Data Collector on a common data platform—to ingest heterogeneous inputs (databases, spreadsheets and new county feeds) into a single reporting workflow.

IBM StreamSets pipelines enabled the team to quickly ingest and normalize hundreds of county-level sources into a cohesive Tableau dashboard; because StreamSets handles any file format and is portable across environments, endpoint changes required only origin updates. Using IBM StreamSets, Avaap and the State of Ohio built the COVID dashboard overnight, had it ready for the governor’s press conference the next day, provided daily statewide updates across all 88 counties, and set the stage for further efficiencies with StreamSets Transformer and Control Hub.
